5 Healthy Snack Ideas | Ruston Louisiana Family Photographer | Courtney Winters Photography
Like many others, I am trying to focus on cleaning up my diet. For the most part I eat healthy and I workout, but I can’t exactly say that I eat 100% clean. To be quiet honest, I don’t think I could ever say I ate 100% clean. Maybe 80%.. I feel like life throws too many curve balls for anyone to be able to eat 100% perfectly clean ALL. THE. TIME. With all that being said, I knew there were quite a few areas in my diet that I was consuming things that weren’t all that wonderful for me.. and I knew I could cut these areas out with a little more self-control. So I made that one of my New Year resolutions- clean up my diet.
The most challenging part of eating healthy, to me, is finding a good snack. If you are anything like me and are always hungry, it’s very vital that you have your snacks. You know, after breakfast snack, after lunch snack, after dinner snack.. Ok, that’s a little dramatic. Who needs an after breakfast snack? 😉 Anywho, you get the point. I snack a lot, so finding something that is not only filling but also healthy is very important in helping me stay on track. I’ve rounded up 5 of the snacks that I eat to help me stay focused and motivated to keep going.
Apple slices and peanut butter
Of course, you will want to find a natural peanut butter with very little or no sugar at all. Sometimes when I really have a sweet tooth, I’ll add dark chocolate chips to this combo. Another way I like to mix this up is to have green apple slices, almonds, and chocolate chips. That’s the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and sour.
An apple and string cheese
I‘m sure any string cheese you prefer would be good here. We personally like light mozzarella cheese.
Carrots and hummus
This is another one that I will sometimes modify. Sometimes I will get a craving for chips and hummus so I will pull out the blue corn tortilla chips. These are pretty amazing with roasted garlic hummus.
For this, I like to use regular, Chobani Greek Yogurt, honey, granola, and sliced fruit. I don’t make this very often, but it is certainly something that will satisfy my sweet tooth AND keep me full for a while! Make sure the granola you use has very little sugar! Or, even better, make your own! It’s super easy!
Cottage Berry Whip
This stuff tastes JUST LIKE a berry sherbert! You can find this recipe here. For this one, I use honey rather for the sweetener rather than stevia because I am not a fan of stevia. But you can certainly use what ever you like! Just try to avoid sugar!
I hope you find some of these snack ideas helpful when you are feeling hungry and it’s not quite time for supper or you are just needing a late night snack! Another thing that I have found to really help when the urge to snack just won’t go away is either brushing your teeth, or drinking a big glass of water! I’m not sure how the brushing your teeth helps, but it really does!
