Louisiana Snow Day | Minden Louisiana Family Photographer | Courtney Winters Photography
I’m sure you’ve probably seen more snow day pictures than you can stand to look at! But bare with us; this is a VERY RARE occasion!!
Last week we were looking at the weather forecast and happened to notice Tuesday was showing a forecast of snow! Of course, this brings much excitement to us Louisiana folk who only see a good snow about once every 4 years. With the excitement, however, comes doubt. After all, there has already several times this winter that we have had snow predicted and we didn’t even see a flurry. But this time, all the weather forecasts were showing the same thing. Snow! Still, we couldn’t help but feel a little skeptical.
Monday was a beautiful 57 degrees with just a few clouds in the sky. How on earth could there be snow coming tomorrow?! The later in the day it got, the more the temperature dropped and dark clouds started rolling in. Maybe we would see snow after all!
We went to bed about 30 minutes before the forecasted snow was supposed to start and we woke up to a winter wonderland at 6:30! It was quite the surprise! I was excepting just a little bit, but we got close to 2 inches! Now that may not seem like much, but for us here in Louisiana who NEVER see snow (almost never anyways) this was a BIG deal!!
After seeing the beautiful snow-laden ground, I realized I didn’t have shoes for Elaine to play in the snow in. Mom fail! This is her first snow and she doesn’t eve have the shoes to play in it! I couldn’t do that to her.. So we improvised! I put her in her fleece footie pajamas, put socks over that and then the only pair of shoes that would fit over all the layers. And it worked! We went outside for a few minutes and she walked all around and her feet stayed nice and dry!
A few hours later, my sister and her husband picked us and we all went to my parents’ house to play in the snow together! Thankfully, my sister had an extra pair of boots that weren’t suede like Elaine’s ankle boots are. We the girls up and let them go have some fun together! They loved every second of it! Especially when Pop-Pop pulled them on the “sled.”
I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my daughter’s first snow day from your nice, warm house!
