5 Tips For Reaching Your New Year Goals | Ruston, Louisiana Family Photographer
Now that Christmas has come and gone, everyone everywhere has shifted their focus to the new year and their new year resolutions. Every year we make plans to accomplish something big in the new year. Our intentions are always good and we really try to achieve them, but so many times we lose sight of our goals and we drop the ball. No matter what your goals are for this coming year, there is one thing that you must have in order to reach these goals. A plan! You know what they say..
“Failing to plan is planning to fail.”
So with that being said, we’ve got a few tips for you to plan to succeed with your new year goals!
1. Set big goals, with small steps to get you there.
Maybe you have a goal to lose 50 pounds in the coming year. It’s so easy to get discouraged by such a big number. If you set small goals of, say 10 pound increments, you’ll have smaller goals to help you reach the ultimate goal. Reward yourself each time you hit another 10 pound goal and before you know it you’ll be at that 50 pound goal!
2. Write your goals down.
It’s great to set goals, but what good does it do if they stay in your head? In order to keep the motivation, you need to take those thoughts and write them down. Every time you start to lose sight of your goals, go back to that notebook and remind yourself of what you wanted to accomplish.
3. Keep a journal.
It’s always pretty easy to get motivation the first few days of the new year. When the motivation is high and you are starting towards your goal, write down how good it feels each day knowing you are one step closer to that goal. When motivation seems gone, go back to that journal and remind yourself how good it feels to be working towards those goals.
4. Keep your goals where you can see them.
As good as it is to write your goals down, it’s just as important to have them written and placed where you can see them every single day. What better way to remind yourself of your goals than by seeing them every day? Write them on post-it notes and hang them on your mirror or on your fridge. It’s much easier to accomplish something when you are constantly reminded of it!
5. Give yourself grace.
Reaching goals is hard. If it were easy, everyone would be reaching their goals every single year. But the truth is, it’s hard. But that’s ok. There will be times when you want to give up. Don’t let yourself. Keep your eyes on the result and keep moving forward. Yes there will be times when maybe you didn’t do your best. Maybe you just couldn’t resist that cupcake. Maybe you skipped that workout that you really needed to do. IT’S OK!! Don’t stress over the small things. Just get up and keep going. You can do this!!
